X-Ray shielding glass plates made of glass types TF5 and TF105 are intended for protection against x-ray emittance. Besides, TF105 is radiation resistant glass having the same optical properties as TF5 but in addition does not darken at long-term gamma irradiation and ionization exposure. These plates are widely used in science, technology and industrial equipment. Protective properties of the plates are characterized by a lead equivalent: that is, by the thickness of lead layer, expressed in millimeters, that attenuates X-ray radiation in the same number of times as the given plate. Lead content in glasses is not less 66%. Lead equivalent of glass plates at refraction index ne=(1.7617±20) 10-4 depending on their thickness is given below. x-ray shielding glass plates made of TF5 glass type | glass thickness (mm) | lead equivalent at voltage 180-200 kV, not less | | 10 | 2.5 | | 20 | 4.0 | | 30 | 5.0 | | 40 | 6.5 | | 50 | 13.5 | X-Ray shielding glass plates are manufactured in round and rectangular forms. Operating surfaces of plates are finally polished; edges and bevels are good grinded. But plates could be supplied at sizes, forms and quality as per customer requirements. Plates with standard dimensions are given below: | plates | thickness (mm) | | rectangular | round | | length (mm) | width (mm) | diameter (mm) | | 146 | 132 | 30,50,70,96,114,140,158,170,200,250 | 10,15,20,25,50 | | 166 | 166 | | 178 | 130 | | 220 | 150 | | 240 | 180 | | 300 | 240 | | 356 | 356 | | 400 | 300 | | 400 | 400 | | 500 | 400 | | 500 | 500 | | 600 | 500 | Optical properties of x-ray shielding glass plates | property | index | glass type | | TF5 | TF105 | | refractive index | ne | 1.7617±20*10-4 | | transmission coefficient in 10 mm glass layer, not less | tauA | 0.979 | 0.975 | Glass possesses high degree of transmittance that ensures optimal viewing. Within 500-600 nm wavelength, where human eye has the highest sensitivity, TF glass type has 97% transmittance in 10 mm glass layer. The main applications are monitoring the x-ray process in medicine and industry, at mammography work stations (i.e. cancer therapy), in research and development (i.e. "glove-box"). All customer application features and specialties are discussed and realized.
